Introductory Drawing class

This class focuses on drawing buildings and man-made structures accurately within a landscape using linear perspective. Students will learn one- and two-point perspective with horizon lines, vanishing points, and scale to create convincing depth and spatial relationships. Students will practice integrating architecture with natural elements such as terrain, trees, and sky. Emphasis is placed on proportion, composition, and clarity, helping students develop confidence in constructing believable environments from both reference and imagination. Please join us and draw in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere.

Whether you’re a beginner or returning to drawing after time away, this class offers a supportive, relaxed space to grow your skills and develop your artistic eye. You’ll leave with knowledge of the techniques used to create structures in the landscape, and the confidence to continue drawing the world around you.

The atmosphere is supportive and encouraging, giving you space to experiment, make mistakes, and maybe even surprise yourself.

Norman Engel earned his B.A. in Fine Art at Morehead State University in Eastern Kentucky, and an M.F.A in Computer Animation from Florida Atlantic University. His impressive resume includes painting, technical photography, animation, and teaching art at the college level. He currently holds adjunct positions at the Art Institute of San Antonio, and The Southwest School of Art.
