Step into the wide-open beauty of Texas and learn how to capture its spirit on paper. This class introduces the fundamentals of landscape drawing through the lens of iconic Texas scenery.
Participants explore essential drawing skills including line, shape, proportion, value, and atmospheric perspective. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn how to simplify complex landscapes, build convincing depth, and create expressive compositions inspired by the Texas environment.
Whether you’re a beginner or returning to drawing after time away, this class offers a supportive, relaxed space to grow your skills and develop your artistic eye. You’ll leave with a finished landscape drawing, stronger foundational techniques, and the confidence to continue drawing the world around you.
The atmosphere is supportive and encouraging, giving you space to experiment, make mistakes, and maybe even surprise yourself.
Norman Engel earned his B.A. in Fine Art at Morehead State University in Eastern Kentucky, and an M.F.A in Computer Animation from Florida Atlantic University. His impressive resume includes painting, technical photography, animation, and teaching art at the college level. He currently holds adjunct positions at the Art Institute of San Antonio, and The Southwest School of Art.
Per Norman, “The reason that I enjoy teaching is selfishly simple. This truly is a labor of love. I am an artist, surrounded by extremely creative individuals. Artists share, that is what we do. The ideas, the energy, the enthusiasm, and the politics of art. WOW. I live the life of an artist……How cool is that?”
